Years ago, my 2 young boys and one very patient dog (in photo) would wear Superman / Superdog capes believing they could change the world.
What we didn’t know then was how deeply our family’s story would become connected to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
Jordan and I took our Portuguese Water Dog Max to Bloorview MacMillan Centre (its name at the time) to volunteer in the pet therapy program, bringing comfort to children navigating complex medical challenges. Jordan later coached wheelchair & special Olympics basketball at Bloorview. Today, Sammy works there as an engineer, custom designing and making prosthetic limbs that give kids greater mobility, independence and confidence.
Much of my professional work focuses on longevity and aging — the far end of life’s curve. But lifelong dignity begins at the very front end. When we invest early, the impact compounds for decades.
I’m wearing a cape and fundraising to help shape the future of pediatric disability healthcare — supporting vital research, programs and services that increase access to care for kids and families across Canada.
