Friends,
I'm not really sure where the time has gone.
In 2012, when my son Emery was 4, he was diagnosed with the terminal neuromuscular disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We were told he would be non-ambulatory in his early teens, require beathing assistance and have a life expectancy of 20. I still feel and hear that first meeting and news, pounding in my heart, daily.
This coming March 2025, we have a lot to celebrate. Not only is it Capes for Kids week, but on March 27th, Emery is turning 18. Walking, talking, breathing, studying, drawing (so much drawing!) - independently.
Holland Bloorview has helped make Emery strong - supporting his physical, mental and emotional well being, together with our whole family. This is why I wear a cape for Holland Bloorview every year. This is why I ask that you join me, support us, and have some fun along the way.
Did you know that last year my team, the League of Extraordinary Insurance Women, raised over $96,000 for Capes for Kids? 66 incredible team members, and so many more contributors built the momentum, the network, the passion and deep support to give. We came first on the Leaderboard, raising $320,000 in 7 years!
May I invite you to change the world for my son Emery and all kids with disabilities? Join us for serious fun to create serious change - all while wearing a cape!
We are going to kick off with a Zoom cocktail on January 28th, followed by a blowout League party at my office on February 25th. I hope that you will join me, donate if you have the capacity and share whenever and however you can.
Thank you for caring for my kid, all kids. We are every child's parent.
Love and gratitude,
Kadey
